Short Prayers
Hear Me Lord
Forgive me Lord
Please, those years when I ignored you
Forgive them Lord
Those that feel they can't afford youHelp me Lord, please
To rise above this dealing
Help me Lord, please
To love you with more feelingAt both ends of the road
To the left and the right
Above and below us
Out and in, there's no place that you're not in
Oh, won't you hear me Lord-- George Harrison
A Thanksgiving Prayer
Samuel F. PughO God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen."
Prayer to St. Catherine of Siena:
O Saint Catherine of Siena, God our Father enkindled the flame of holy love in your heart as you meditated on the Passion of Jesus His Son. Moved by His grace, you devoted your life to the poor and the sick, as well as to the peace and unity of the Church.
Through your intercession, may we also come to know the love of Jesus, bring His compassion to all, and work for the unity of His Church. We ask this in Jesus' Name and for His sake. Amen.
Prayer for Generosity
Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as you deserve:
To give, and not to count the cost,
To fight, and not to heed the wounds,
To toil, and not to seek for rest,
To labor, and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing that we do your will.-~Saint Ignatius of Loyola
In God alone, be at rest, my soul;
For my hope comes from him.
He alone is my rock, my stronghold;
My fortress: I stand firm.
-- Psalm 62
You command the seed to rise, Lord God, though the farmer is unaware.
Grant that those who labor for you may trust not in their own work but in your help.
Remembering that the land is brought to flower not with human tears but with those of your Son, may the Church rely only upon your gifts.
An Evening Prayer:
I love you Jesus, my love, with my whole heart;
And I repent for ever having offended you.
Never permit me to offend you again.
Grant that I may love you always,
And then do with me what you will.
--St. Alphonsus Ligouri.
Slow Me Down, Lord
Ease the pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind. Steady my hurried pace. Give me, amidst the day's confusion, the calmness of the everlasting hills. Break the tensions of my nerves and muscles with the soothing music of singing streams that live in my memory.
Help me to know the magical, restoring power of sleep. Teach me the art of taking "minute vacations"...slowing down to look at a flower, to chat with a friend, to read a few lines from a good book.
Remind me of the fable of the hare and the tortoise; that the race is not always to the swift; that there is more to life than measuring its speed.
Let me look up at the branches of the towering oak and know that it grew slowly and well. Inspire me to send my own roots down deep into the soil of life's endearing values...that I may grow toward the stars of my greater destiny.
Slow me down, Lord.
~~Wilfred Arlan Peterson
A Night Prayer:
If you are angry, let it be without sin. The sun must not go down on your wrath;
Do not give the devil a chance to work on you.
-- Christian Liturgy of the Hours
HERE I AM, LORD
Here I am, Lord, send me;
Send me to the ends of the earth;
Send me to the rough, the savage pagans of the wilderness;
Send me from all that is called comfort in earth, or earthly comfort:
Send me to death itself, if it be but in Thy service and to promote Thy kingdom.
-- Saint Frances Xavier
